Here at Illman Young, we have a very strong team working ethos; with an office environment constantly buzzing with project team discussions, and colleague consultation.
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our management team:

Sue Illman, Managing Director

A past President of the Landscape Institute and Honorary Fellow of both the Society for the Environment, and University of Gloucestershire, Sue is a practicing landscape architect and a specialist in historic landscape conservation, with a long-term interest and expertise in hard landscape construction and planting design.

Sue is a passionate advocate for Sustainable Drainage Sytems (SuDS) as a key element in sustainable design practices. She has extensive experience in both lecturing and the delivery of training about SuDS and also speaks about the wider subject of sustainability, of which water is a key part.

She frequently acts as Project Manager for landscape-led projects, and has strong skills in delivery, particularly where there are complex or difficult site constraints.

Toby Goodman, Associate Director

Toby is a Chartered Landscape Architect who qualified in Gloucestershire, and worked for both Groundwork Trusts and private practice around London before joining Illman Young in Cheltenham in 2007. Toby now forms a key member of the senior management team at the practice, where he oversees large scale construction projects and maintains a high level of design standards for all projects undertaken by the office.

Toby’s true strength lies in his keen eye for detail and practical approach to design. His ability to work seamlessly between design and construction teams ensures the highest levels of quality and finish are achieved on all of his projects.

Toby’s most recent projects include Cheltenham Racecourse and the recently completed construction of four new facilities for Avon and Somerset Police.

Helen McHollan, Associate Director

Helen is a Chartered Landscape Architect who qualified in Edinburgh, and worked in Japan and Scotland before joining Illman Young in Cheltenham in 2001, and now forms part of the senior management team. Helen is a naturally gifted designer with a wealth of experience in the field of landscape architecture; her ability to take a project through from inception to completion has given her a strong grounding in a number of different aspects of the profession.

As a ‘Learning Through Landscapes’ accredited advisor she has particular skills in the education sector but also experience in large scale residential developments, championing green infrastructure and sustainable drainage systems to create liveable and desirable places to live.
