Bentham

A high quality residential development is proposed on the site of former industrial works within the Green Belt and AONB surrounding Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Illman Young were commissioned to undertake a LVIA to help establish a new landscape-led development layout as a previous scheme had been refused. The site needed to demonstrate its sustainability, a key factor being the drainage, as there is already local flooding in severe storm events. This has now achieved consent.

• Development of a landscape masterplan with integrated Sustainable Drainage Scheme (SuDS)

• Groupings of housing developed to accord with local vernacular with a ‘Cotswold’ core around a Village Green and large detached houses, ‘farm style’ groupings and public open space to periphery

• Open spaces include a community orchard, Village Green and play areas

• SuDS is fully integrated within the masterplan, and forms a distinctive characteristic of its design, utilising rain gardens within property boundaries, and hard channels to convey the water along front boundaries

• Other components include green roofs to sheds, permeable paving to parking areas, waterbutts, infiltration trenches, detention basins and ponds
