Martha Trust Hospice

Martha Trust is a registered charity which provides lifelong and respite care for young people with profound intellectual and physical disabilities. They planned a second home on the outskirts of Hereford, and Illman Young formed part of the design team to assist in realising their ambitions for the project.

• Site lies in Open Countryside so an LVIA report required as part of planning

• Retention of the existing mature trees was a driver in the site’s layout and design

• Outdoor space forms a critical role for Trust residents, carers and families. The whole of the outdoor space seen as therapy space with different experiences, including water features, raised beds, aromatic plantings and sculptures

• Landscape allows and frames views of the orchards next door and hills beyond

• SuDS system provides attractive and ecologically diverse visible routes for rainwater
