Silverstone

As part of ongoing master planning works at Silverstone Circuit, plans have been developed for a new visitor experience with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The museum is to be located with a refurbished and extended hanger located adjacent to the circuit.
Illman Young were commissioned to produce a landscape masterplan for the external space around the experience building for inclusion within the HLF stage two bid documents; following the success of the funding application, our appointment continued to develop and deliver the scheme.
  • A large plaza created to the front of the building capable of holding the large numbers of people that will occasionally use the space. The strong geometry of the plaza is defined by creating links from the car park entrances to the main entrance and with the historic ride from Stowe School.
  • The design has been considered with a view to future adjacent development enabling key elements to be continued reinforcing both the historic elements of the site and the design.
  • Feature paving will contain words and dates engraved with key events within the evolution of the track, forming a time line thorough the plaza. New tree planting will further reinforce the historic ride.
