Milverton

The site was greenfield land in Milverton, Somerset, a historic town protected by a Conservation Area status, and with a number of listed buildings.
The proposed scheme is for residential development, which varies the extant planning permission that existed on the site, originally granted in the 1970s. The form and layout was not considered to be appropriate today or in keeping with the village aesthetic.
  • Illman Young commissioned to carry out Townscape character study to ensure scheme reflective of local character
  • Four townscape zones identified as well as a farmhouse concept to connect site with old Milverton as well as surrounding countryside
  • Worked closely with architects and team to produce new residential layout with comprehensive SuDS scheme integrated within masterplan and townscape character
  • Design developed in consultation with South West Design Review Panel (SWDRP), Taunton Deane Borough Council (TDBC) and Somerset County Council
  • Masterplan provides attractive public and private spaces for new residents and local people
  • Pocket park near site entrance, with play space and seating, and ‘village green’ to the centre of the site
  • The ‘green’ links uphill to a community orchard and open space.
