In order to extend the commercial land-holding at their ‘Cobweb Buildings’ site at Lyford, the client wished to add two new buildings and undertake other site-wide alterations to the former farmyard.
Pre-application advice from Vale of White Horse District Council broadly accepted the development, but there was concern over the placement of the proposed car parking and potential adverse effects on the setting of the neighbouring village of Lyford.
Following completion of the initial site visit and subsequent baseline assessment, the car park area was relocated and its size increased. A robust landscape strategy was developed for the site and a final layout for the development agreed with the client and project architect. Once the design had been frozen, a landscape and visual impact assessment was produced for the revised scheme and planning permission was successfully obtained in December 2017.
