Sarum Academy

A new masterplan for the Academy was developed around a new build school, procured under the Academies framework. Illman Young formed part of the winning design and construction team.
Landscape masterplan divides site into range of spaces, functioning separately yet complementary to each other:
  • A public space and sense of arrival was created at the front of the school which also clearly and safely separated vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians
  • Educational landscapes were created around the southern ‘petals’ of the building leading out to the wider landscape and grass pitches.
  • Variety of planting zones, from informal wildflowers, through SuDS and boundary planting, to formal beds and trees adjacent to the building and plaza all helped to create a setting for the building and enhance the ecological diversity required for BREEAM
  • Fully integrated SuDS scheme
